Realization and installation of the thermal shields for the cryostat of the CMS project

Criotec Impianti manufactures the thermal shields for the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) Superconducting Magnet Coil installed at the point 5 of LHC (Large Hadron Collider) at Geneva. These are cooled to liquid-nitrogen temperatures (77 K) and form a thermal radiation shield for the solenoid’s cold mass, which is cooled to 4.2 K. Thanks to the excellent result obtained, Criotec has been awarded of the CMS Gold Award in 2005.
